About

Hi, I’m Bryar Smith and I am, and have been from birth, an outdoors kind of guy.  Although I play sports – basketball and baseball -  and lead a pretty normal middle school life, there is no place I’d rather be than outside, in the woods.

On January 12, my 14th birthday, my mom gave me a very unusual birthday present.  She took me to Red Lobster, one of my favorite places to eat, and then presented me with one of the coolest birthday presents ever… my own business.  She had me cover my eyes and when I opened them, this website was there.  I couldn’t believe it.  We had talked about it but I didn’t know that she had put it all together.  And…now here I am.  Hi!!

Since I was little, I’ve been fishing and hunting and generally anything else you can do outdoors.  I’m lucky that my dad is an outdoorsman too and has the knowledge to teach me all these things.  I feel really bad for my friends, the ones who would love to hunt and fish and be outdoors but whose dads won’t take them.  When I ask them why, they usually tell me it is because their dads don’t know how to.  I think it would be really cool if I could teach dads how to do these things with their kids.  How to hunt and fish and navigate the woods.  To camp and generally appreciate, if not love, the great outdoors.

I think that people don’t pay enough attention to the outdoors and too many trees and forests are being destroyed.  I want to make people aware of the consequences that will happen if our forests go away.  There is alot of talk about the tropical forests and how they are being destroyed, but very few people talk about the forest right here in the U.S. being destroyed and the affects that are occurring here.  People need to know.

Now…you may not like hunting and think that hunting is cruel.  I’ve actually gotten into pretty serious discussions in my classes about this subject.  I was even called a murderer.  Girls especially don’t like the idea that I kill deer (they don’t seem to mind as much about the turkeys – cute factor I guess) and get upset at the idea.  I don’t understand how someone can be against another person hunting for grass fed, organic meat and then eat cows that have been shot full of hormones, treated horribly and then killed without even ever having had a chance to enjoy one moment of their life.  My mom, who is vegetarian (strange isn’t it?) tells me about all the horrible things that happen to chickens and cows and it makes me not want to eat that kind of meat.  I’m lucky that I have a freezer full of lean protein that I know is pure.

So…I’m a 14 year old who loves to hunt and fish and who, one day, hopes to be a wildlife biologist.  I also want to have my own hunting TV show so that I can teach dads how to hunt and fish with their kids and teach people how to love and respect the forest.

I hope you enjoy my website and learn some valuable information here.  If you have questions, don’t be afraid to contact me…I’m at bryar[at]wildlife4kids.com.

Now…go outside and hug a tree!  You know I’m joking, right?

Oh…just to let you know, everything on this site is approved by my mom, Lynette Patterson.  At least until I’m 18!
